Privacy Policy
Trypup works fully without an account — in that case all data stays on your device only. Optionally you can create an account, which enables cloud backup of your saved progress and syncing across devices. We process only the data necessary to provide the service.

What data we process
Always (locally on your device)
- Location (GPS) — measuring walk route and distance + anti-cheat. Processed ephemerally, does not leave the device. Optional.
- Motion sensors — verifying the walk is real. Local, not persisted.
- Notifications — locally scheduled care reminders. Optional.
- Photos / camera — optional dog photo. Local only.
- Apple Health / Google Fit — optional write of a completed walk. We only write, we don't read.
- Game state (dog name, breed, stats, progress) — local storage.
Only if you create an account
- Email address — for sign-in and account management.
- User identifier (account ID) — a technical identifier assigned by the authentication provider.
- Saved-progress backup (dog, training, daily progress, purchased features) — stored in the cloud so it can be restored on another device.
Your password is stored only in secure (hashed) form by the authentication provider; we have no access to it.
Purposes and legal basis (GDPR Art. 6)
- Account and cloud backup — performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)).
- Walk measurement (GPS) — a feature you explicitly request (Art. 6(1)(b)); processing is local.
- Product analytics and error diagnostics — our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)); you can turn them off anytime in the app Settings (right to object).
Processors and data location
For the account and cloud backup we use Google (Firebase — Authentication and Firestore) as a processor, under the Firebase Data Processing and Security Terms. The backup (Firestore) is stored in EU data centers (region europe / eur3). The Authentication service may process part of the data outside the EU; such transfers are covered by Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission.
We also use the processors Sentry (app error diagnostics) and RevenueCat (subscription management). Premium purchases are processed by Apple and Google as independent controllers under their own terms. For transfers of personal data outside the EU/EEA we rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework adequacy decision (for certified recipients), otherwise on Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) with supplementary measures (encryption, access controls).
Data sharing
We do not sell or share your data with third parties for their own purposes. Google acts as our processor (on our instructions), not as an independent recipient. Shelters listed in the app are just links to public websites.
Product analytics and error diagnostics (app)
Product analytics
To improve the app, we process anonymized data about how it is used:
- What: a pseudonymous installation identifier (not linked to a person), technical device context (model, OS version, language) and usage events (screens visited, completed walks) — no personal data.
- Where: Google Firebase / Cloud Firestore (processor Google Ireland Ltd.), stored in the EU.
- Legal basis: our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) in improving and measuring app usage. Collection is purely first-party traffic measurement — we do not share the data with third parties, do not link it to your account, and do not use it for advertising or cross-app tracking.
- Your choice: you can turn collection off anytime in the app Settings (right to object, Art. 21 GDPR). We do not collect analytics from users under 16.
- This runs regardless of whether you create an account.
Error diagnostics (Sentry)
For stability we use Sentry (crash reporting + performance) — technical diagnostics without personal data, based on our legitimate interest in the app's functionality.
Cookies and website analytics (trypup.life)
This website uses Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Ltd.) to anonymously measure traffic so we can improve the site. Analytics cookies and measurement only start after you give consent in the cookie bar (legal basis: consent, Art. 6(1)(a)). Until you consent, Google Analytics runs in a cookieless mode (Google Consent Mode). Google acts as a processor and may process part of the data outside the EU, covered by Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs). You can change or withdraw consent at any time via the "Cookies" link in the site footer. This website analytics (cookies + consent) is separate from the app's product analytics described in the section above.
The specific cookies and storage this website uses:
| Name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Analytics — distinguishes visitors for anonymous statistics. Set only after you consent. | 2 years |
_ga_8MWP5X5RPR | Google Analytics — persists session state. Set only after you consent. | 2 years |
trypup-consent(localStorage) | Remembers your analytics consent choice. Strictly necessary for the consent bar; nothing else is stored without consent. | Until you clear browser data |
Retention
Local data stays on your device until you delete the app or reset it. We keep the cloud backup (account) for the lifetime of your account; once you delete your account, we remove it. We keep product analytics for at most 14 months and error diagnostics (Sentry) for at most 90 days, after which they are deleted. Support emails are kept for the duration of handling and a reasonable period afterward.
Your rights (GDPR)
You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection. You can delete your account and cloud backup directly in the app (Account → Delete account). If you have uninstalled the app, email hello@trypup.life and we will delete your data. You can turn off product analytics anytime in the app Settings (right to object).
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority — in the Czech Republic the Office for Personal Data Protection (ÚOOÚ), uoou.gov.cz.
Children and minors
On first launch the app asks for the user's age category ("16 or older" / "under 16"). The answer stays on your device only and is never sent anywhere.
For users under 16, analytics collection is completely disabled — regardless of the in-app setting — and purchase options are not shown. The 16-year threshold matches the strictest age of consent under the GDPR (Art. 8). We do not knowingly collect any personal data from children. If you believe a child under 16 has provided us with personal data, contact us at hello@trypup.life and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We will announce material changes in the app and here. When we add social sign-in (Apple/Google) we will list those providers as processors.
